Rules

Laws of the Game

The league plays to FIFA Laws of the Game, with one exception:

  • Unlimited substitutions are allowed, at the referee’s discretion.

Match Format

  • Two 45-minute halves, plus discretionary extra time, with a 10-minute half-time break.
  • A team must field at least 7 players. If it cannot do so within 15 minutes of the scheduled kick-off, the game is forfeited.
  • The 15-minute grace period applies only if the team has fewer than the minimum number of players present at the field.

Points & Standings

  • Win — 3 points · Draw — 1 point · Loss — 0 points
  • The team with the most points at the end of the season wins the league.
  • Ties are broken by goal difference.

Discipline

Yellow cards

  • Two yellow cards in a single game means ejection from that game, with no further suspension.
  • Three yellow cards across the season — a $20 fine must be paid before the player’s next game.

Red cards

  • A red card carries a minimum one-game suspension, served at the player’s next scheduled game, and a $50 fine payable before they next play.
  • A third red card ends that player’s season. Appeals may be reviewed by the league organizers.
  • If a suspended player takes part in a game they were suspended for, the opposition is awarded an automatic 1–0 win.
  • Suspended players and coaches may not sit with the team and must be out of the park.
  • Violent or racist conduct means immediate ejection from the league.

Referee decisions

No protests are allowed against a referee’s decisions — the referee’s call is final. All decisions on ineligible players and unsportsmanlike conduct rest with the league organizers.

Trades

  • Trade deadline: Saturday 19 September 2026.
  • No changing between teams after the deadline.
  • Exception: a goalkeeper may move between teams when a team needs a goalie.

Smithers Cup

A four-team playoff held Saturday 17 October 2026, seeded from the final league standings.

  • 11:00 — 1st place v 4th place
  • 13:00 — 2nd place v 3rd place
  • 15:00 — Final

Cup rules differ from league play:

  • Games are 70 minutes (two 35-minute halves).
  • If level, two 5-minute overtime halves, then a 5-player shootout.
  • Two yellow cards in the cup constitutes a one-game suspension.

Waiver

All players must sign the league’s waiver and release of liability before playing.
