How the Smithers Cup works
The season ends with the Smithers Cup on Saturday 17 October — all four teams, three games, one day.
The format
Seeding comes straight from the final league standings after the last round on 11 October:
- 11:00 am — 1st place v 4th place
- 1:00 pm — 2nd place v 3rd place
- 3:00 pm — Final
So league position matters right to the end — finishing first means facing whoever finishes fourth.
Cup rules differ from league play
- Games are 70 minutes — two 35-minute halves, not 45.
- If it’s level at full time: two 5-minute overtime halves, then a five-player shootout.
- Two yellow cards during the cup means a one-game suspension — which on a single-day tournament could mean missing the final.
Keep an eye on Standings as the last round approaches — the seeding is usually still in play on the final day.
